Attitude and skills

I have joined now since a short while the group of freelance and interim managers. I love the short term contracts to say in shape and to learn new trades, but also to work on a few identified competencies that i need to work on. One assesment that i took indentified “managing up” as a to develop strenght for instance.

this brings me to the topic of the recruitement process in which i’m getting into now. With a very diverse background one of the things i now experience is the new way of recruiting: hiring for attitude and training for skills. An example: http://www.fastcompany.com/26996/hire-attitude-train-skill

so now spot the difference between then and now:

The new religion: platform

interesting discussion today with a very tech savy person in a coffee bar. Responding to a question from a person at the bar: what phone i should use i tried to stay a bit neutral on Android , Windows Phone or IPhone since at the end of the day it's all about what you want to with your phone and how much money you are willing to spend.

when stating that apps should be platform agnostic i was labeled naive. A label i kind of like because this means that this would be indeed the ultimate way forward. For now i will leave it with an early Ted-talk: buying a mobile phone today is much about the shift from power of choice to paradox of choice.

picking up

where we left off. Loads have changed, bu much is still the same.

  • still enjoying family life and working on our new home
  • Still enjoying the best of what food and drinks have to offer

  • still busy with tons of projects like starting up a non profit org to support young entrepreneurs (www.mest.be)

  • in between jobs doing some great interim work for big European security company based in Brussels
  • engaged myself in local politics

so loads to write about on the blog.
